Self Care Movement

“Self-care as if your life depends on it, because it does.”

Ocean + breeze + sunshine = happy, Zen me. I was on a boat looking out into the ocean feeling completed connected to the elements, as nature has always been healing for me. Luckily, I had a picture taken of me in this moment which I later captioned, “How I Zen my Crazy.” 

As time went by, the topic of self-care dominated my sessions with clients. Time and time again it provided that bringing love back to ourselves meant engaging in things we not only loved doing, but that also served as a healthy way to cope with challenges. 

My inspiration:

A few years ago, I met a devoted rock-climbing instructor in Colombia. Captivated by her talent, I asked her, “How did you start rock climbing?” The look on her face shifted. She shared her past struggle with depression and her friends’ many attempts to get her out of her home and into the gym. She ended her story saying, “Rock climbing saved my life.”

An 18-year-old, desensitized to gang violence and childhood trauma, describes how defeated he felt when his mom accidentally threw away a book containing over 250 songs he had written. Witnessing him freestyling again after giving it up for years was like watching his soul reawaken. 

These stories inspired me to create an interactive platform for people to share their self-care stories. I launched a self-care apparel line with the tagline, “How I Zen my Crazy.” The first two designs for yoga and meditation proved to be fun conversations starters! 

My mission is to bring back awareness to mental health by empowering people of all ages to engage in self-care activities that are enjoyable, healthy, and stress relievers. Whether your self-care practice is dancing, painting, or meditating, I encourage you to commit to SELF-CARE. After all, we ALL deserve to live happier and healthier lives!
